Connecting / disconnecting

Postby Nathan » Wed 25th Aug, 2010 8:47 pm

Hi,

When I disconnect, and allow another DJ to go on air, the stream buffers and everyone has to refresh their pages for the stream to be 'smooth' again.

Any help ?

hi there,

i think that is because you are streaming with 128kbs (example) and youre DJ with 64 kbs (example).

Hope this can help

No, everything is the same, just if I disconnect, and he connects, the stream is like 'start, stop, start, stop, start, stop'.. and you gotta refresh for the stream to play smoothly.

hmmm ok, i thought that because i have that problem also with some dj's. My ISP its ok i have a nice and stable bitrate for broadcast 128 kbs, but some dj's no, so they need to stream with 56 and when we change it happens the "start/stop" or sometime it buffer and buffer ... but well if with you dont is that dont know sorry.

It is unfortunate, but Shoutcast isn't very nice for DJ changeovers - I don't think they really thought about it when developing the server.

If your DJs all use different sample rates or channels* then most MP3 players will stop as they can't handle the change, also if DJ 2 connects more than a few seconds after DJ 1 disconnects, then there will be a short buffer.

* A change in bitrate doesn't really matter, and the stream will be smooth as long as you use the same sample rate (e.g 22khz, 44.1khz etc) and the same number of channels (i,e mono (1) or stereo (2)).

Hmmm very cool info Gavin Thanks. I thought that the problem is the bitrate but i thought wrong ,its the sample rate. very nice to know that. Thanks again Gavin.
