Edcast Error "Password Failed"
Have been having a problem with a whole host of streaming providers recently...
Used to use a company called Txthost (Part of Foxtrot Studios), then switch to myradiostream.com and now on a free trial with Mixstream.
Have use Edcast for a while now, but on all 3 providers, I get the error "Password Failed", and then encoder disconnects, then retrys, getting the same error over and over meaning we can't stream.
I thought it might be the installation, so re-installed edcast, but to no avail. I've tried different PCs and they all get the same. As we're part of the university and reside on their network, is anyone aware of anything that their firewall or group policies might do to 'block' our streaming?
I know I need to contact the IT Dept of the uni but thought I'd try here first.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks
Ned

Re: Edcast Error "Password Failed"
I get the feeling that your uni is blocking the ports. A very similar thing happened to me when I was living in uni halls of residence (which used the uni network).
For the first few months it was possible to stream with no problems, but then all of a sudden they put tight restrictions on their firewall and only allowed the most common ports so that only web browsing, email, FTP etc worked.
The way to see if this is the case is to try to view your DNAS page which is at:
http://SERVER-HOST-OR-IP:PORT
So for example, here is an active server: http://uk2-pn.mixstream.net:8740/
If you get a browser error that says that it is unable to connect, then unfortunately your firewall is blocking the connection. The only way to fix this would be to contact the IT department and ask then to unblock the port you are on AND the port+1 (very important). So for the example I gave above, ports 8740 and 8741 would need to be unblocked. This is because when you stream to a server, it uses the next port up from the listening port.
I hope this explains things! and good luck with the IT department lol

The strange thing is that EdCast worked fine yesterday, when I installed it for the 1st time!!
(I haven't changed my stream password and it is only 11 characters long.)
