Playing streams on iphone/ipad etc?

Postby FrInGe » Tue 01st Feb, 2011 4:02 pm

Is it possible to play streams on the iphone/ipad etc?

I know it doesn't support flash so the flash player is out the window but is there any other way?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi,

It may be worth checking the documentation for your iPhone, but I think they do support .pls or .m3u playlist files and MP3 streams.

There are numerous apps that support streaming media for the iphone and /or ipad. Simply go to the app store and search for shoutcast and you will find apps. I use "RadioBox" so you might want to search for that.

TuneIn.com seems good as well, but for anyone on the free service it wouldn't be suitable (as with many apps).

There's a free app called StreamItAll in the app store which allows you to enter the feed details manually so you can use it to receive the free stream services (when the server isnt down)

XiiaLiveLite also allows you to imput a URL plus it accepts Windows Media Player playlist files. You can have your listeners install that player and then they can listen to your FREE stream as long as they come to the website first and as long as they are in a 4G area. So maybe you can try that.

I use this site for my radio station ... Just sign up here http://webradiotoolkit.com/

They'll send a link to your email to add your radio details and you can create your URL.. and that link will work for all Apple products (iPod, iPhone, iPad, iTouch etc.). They have a link there for Blackberries as well but that hasn't worked for me. If that does work for any of you let me know!

Works GREAT for my FREE station. We play Classic Rock,Progressive Rock

Listen to The Legacy on your droid too here is how:

Surf on your Blackberry/Droid/iPhone to:
s1.myradiostream.com/15406.htm Wait for google ads.

Now close page and go to:

http://radiotuner.mobi/thelegacymrs

For iphone press iPhone. For Blackberry and Driod press Blackberry.

Note:for Droids Download XiiaLiveLite from the android market and you can even save the playlist in your favorites.

Let me know if you have trouble with the station cutting in and out and if so I'll lower the bitrate to 64K but this WORKS on the droid I tested it so if you follow the instructions you can listen to your FREE stream so just try my station out and you'll see it works and very easy thanks for the website info.

Yes, it's the same for me, my Blackberry doesn't seem to understand M3U files - it's much more difficult to get a stream playing on a Blackberry without apps but it is something I've managed to do. Customers can access their mobile stream by linking like this:

http://SERVER-ID.mixstream.net/PORT.m

Change SERVER-ID to the server ID such as uk1-pn
Change PORT to your stream port

Unlike other services, our mobile option automatically detects the mobile device being used and delivers the audio in a way that it can understand. This saves listeners from having to choose the correct option to listen.

If you'd like to test it then please enter the following URL into your mobile device's browser/player:

http://uk2-pn.mixstream.net/8740.m

This has been tested on Blackberry, iPhone and Andriod but any feedback regarding other devices is welcome (please email sales @ bellonline .co.uk)
