Second Life Streaming?

Postby stevenozzy8 » Mon 29th Jun, 2009 10:22 am

Hi, I have had a problem when trying to use my stream in the game Second Life. The game allows you to own land where you can then add your Stream Address and broadcast music to that specific piece of land. I tried to do this last night and started Broadcasting for a small group. What ended up happening was only I could hear the broadcast in the game, nobody else could. As well, I then gave everyone a link to the online player that is provided, that worked fine, for both myself and others. I tried many things such as checking the Stream Address, Checking my Encoder (Using Winamp + DPS Plugin), trying different streams even! I concluded that there may be something interfering with the Stream on the server's end. I don't know if you can do anything to solve this but if you could help me any way possible I'd be grateful.

Make sure your stream is set to MP3 and not AAC. SL cannot handle AAC. Also, make sure you have the correct URL in the About Land (i.e. http://IP#:PORT)

absolutly nothing interfering at the server end sounds to me like you havent got the codec selected sl will only allow you stream mp3 so long as you have that selected as kahfluie said an the url in the land you should be good.

Yeah I've already experimented with the encoder, always use Mp3, 128kbps, 44.1KHz, on Stereo. As well, if it was AAC then even I wouldn't hear it in SL, but that's not the case, I can hear it just fine in SL. I hear it fine everywhere, but nobody else can hear it in Second Life, that's the main problem here, figuring out why nobody but myself, who is the one DJing, can hear it in game.

EDIT: Also, I did have the correct format in About Land set, http://s3.myradiostream.com:8506

Oh also, is it possible ports could be affecting it?

Well, you have the stream set to private. I tried listening in Winamp and I got Access Denied on my player. You may have it set to only have listeners from your IP or something... but something is definately blocking anyone from listening (other than you). I'd look at your server setup. I have no troubles using my servers from mixstream in SL.

Alright, well where exactly could I check for this? It's set public on the DPS Plugin, I checked the server settings and couldn't find anything, ideas?

I'm still trying to figure out why it's set to private, I don't exactly know what to do currently because I've already checked my DPS plugin and the Stream's CP. If you're still paying attention to this thread just know I'm still waiting for a reply.

It might not be possible to stream in second life unless you can put the listen.htm URL into there rather than link directly to the stream. FreeStreamHosting is a free service supported by the ads on your 'listen' page and we have systems in place to stop people from bypassing them.

Private server just means that it's not listed on shoutcast.com (for the same reason as above)
