Songs skip when fading to next track

Postby magpiie » Sun 02nd Jan, 2011 6:26 pm

Hi, I recently started using Sam2 for streaming my station through myradiostream.com Everything was working fine, apart from the server always showing a red icon to say it was offline. It was streaming perfectly well until a couple of days ago when, after a song had finished and the autodj feature in sam2 faded to the next track, the track starts but keeps cutting out every 2-3 seconds, for approx 1 second. I have to restart the player on the web page for it to continue without skipping. Is there any solution or suggestion that will enable me to get round this problem? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. If any more info is needed about any specific configuration, then please let me know. Thanks

Just to add to the above post, the stream has started skipping even mid song now, The player plays the stream for about 30 seconds, then suddenly starts cutting out as described in the above post. If this is the standard of the server then can someone please recommend me a better service? I am running the free stream for now until I can purchase a subscription but if this is the standard I am going to be getting then I need another company to go to (An none that are associated with the current free service thank you)

I have tried all the links on the radio player site page. They all do the same, its becoming a really annoying problem, especially when I am in the middle of a set. Do you know of any better alternatives that give a more stable stream?

Just to clear things up - people seem to think that the free service in some way represents the quality of our paid service. This isn't true.

With the free service, we have to cut costs down to a minimum and this will always have an effect on the service quality. For our paid services, we use premium bandwidth providers and much higher spec hardware.

It seems strange to me that people think that they will get the same service for free as paying customers.

An upgrade to the paid service is exactly that - an upgrade. Upgraded bandwidth, Upgraded hardware, Upgraded support, and properly managed servers.

I don't understand why people expect the free service to be the same as a paid server.

I was having the same problem, but I found that when I disabled the "allow scripts in stream" option, it cleared up. Backing it down to 96kbps may have helped the problem, too.

Try broadcasting @ 32K AAC+ and you should be able to have 50+ simultaneous listeners before skipping/buffering occurs. Remember you'll have to only put the google ads on your site and the .pls link so people can listen via iTunes or Winamp. The web player won't work for AAC+, but then again iTunes and Winamp is superior to the flash player plus AAC+ is superior to Mp3 and @64k AAC+ you get 128k mp3 quality. @ 32K you still get very close. In fact so close I use this for my paid server which is in the iTunes directory.

If there were any problems caused by the servers being overloaded then they should be better now as some new ones were added last week. The improvement wouldn't have been instant but the service should be getting more reliable.

Hi Gavin and subscribers,

It's good enough for the company to provide free servers but you just can't expect them to be up to the same standard as paid servers. Gee , I agree Gavin, they want everything for nothing , gawd , go figure>?

regards

Tim
