Streaming for smartphones

Postby Darxxide » Thu 23rd Sep, 2010 5:29 am

1) Thank you for the free service! I accidentally posted my first question in the General Discussion section, when it probably should have been here, but I'm sure you'll get to it in due time regardless. :-)

2) I have an Android phone. I've installed an app on it to receive and play streaming stations via the 3G data connection. It has worked quite well with the few stations I've hit with it. Normally, if I navigate to a site's launch page and click the link to the PLS file, the phone hands the file off to the streaming app. Unfortunately, when I try this from my landing page for my free streaming station, the link automatically redirects to the HTML landing page instead of handing me the PLS file to hit the stream. The browser is configured to accept cookies, and the ads are viewable on the page when I hit it with the phone's browser. Any ideas why the link is redirecting instead of giving me my sweet sweet PLS file?

Thanx!

The new Droid OS is supposed to allow Flash and this is what you need. I put the wavestream player in my site and then added their google ads for that page to work. However now that the FREE stations are not on stationfinder.org I don't get the listeners I use to get when I had the FREE service running months ago.

Thx for the reply!

I'm talking about the "Winamp" link, specifically, the one that links to a .PLS file, not the Flash player embedded in the page.

Normally, a .PLS file will open the associated application to play it. The mechanism works on my PC in Firefox, but doesn't work on my Android G1. The same mechanism works on both my phone and my PC for other streaming websites.

The ads all load in on the browser on my phone. Why isn't the link sending me the .PLS file properly?

I'm glad the service will be on Stationfinder. Well I couldn't gewt the Winamp link to work on my Blackberry so I can imagine it won't work on the droid either. However when i type in my browser http://s1.myradiostream.com:15406 I can get my station to play on my Blackberry Curve 8530 after of course i surf to either http://s1.myradiostream.com/15406.htm or my short URL http://thelegacy3.tk so as long as you surf to your radio's google ads page first you should get most smartphones to stream your station. Keep in mind you want to stream at say 64K Mp3 or 32K AAC+ as most mobile carriers don't work well with 128K. Try my station out and you'll see. NOTE sometimes you have to surf to your Google ads page with the player more than once as if your not quick enough the mobile carrier will switch your ip address. I usually get it on the 2nd or 3rd try and can listen to my FREE station. Very few times I don't get it at first try. Hope this helps.
