Streaming on Mobile Phones (please help)

Postby nngradio » Sun 06th Mar, 2011 11:31 pm

I'm not sure if anyone else has touched on this but i need to know how.

Every saturday my radio station streams on here and i'm very pleased with the quality for the 4-5 months we've been on here.

However, many of our listeners want to listen to the radio on there blackberries, iphones, Androids etc.

They say the radio link (e.g. s2.radiostream.com/12345.htm) doesnt work and neither does the alternative (s2.radiostream.com:12345) .

I've searched Google for days now, and im pretty fed up, there must be a way to stream the radio on mobile phones though i presume, so i await someone to enlighten me.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. My station is NNG Radio. We play Hip-Hop, Rap, Pop, bashment, Reggae, Dancehall etc. every Saturday @ http://s6.myradiostream.com/29238.htm

Hi,

This is something that I'll look in to. A lot of phones do seem to support shoutcast but a few things need to be done to make it easier. First of all, I'll be doing some tests and rolling them out on the paid service, and it will eventually be applied to the free service as well.

What about a custom app for streaming that also loads the ads? That way you wouldn't need to worry about any lost income from Google but people could stream to their iPhones or Android phones without problems?

Let me know off list if you think this might be something your station owners might be interested in Gavin.

Hi!... well I've tried this a couple months ago... I've made an HTML document where putted to show the ad for 10 secs and then I've set a refresh to the stream URL.

It worked without any problems with my BlackBerry and iPod.

This is something that would get the FREE service publicity. I have a BlackBerry curve and I was able to stream Shoutcast stations very easy before the upgrade to the OS. Now you have to use an app called TuneWiki to stream from the Shoutcast directory. I wish it would allow you to enter a URL. This way you might be able to stream from your FREE station. To make such an app for the Blackberry it would need to be able to stream from a .pls file or Windows Media file which would work on the BlackBerry's internal media player only if the google ads would show up. Someone would have to make an app similar to TuneWiki but only difference would be to stream from Stationfinder.og. Also it would need to load the google ads either at the bottom of the app or launch the web page. This could be done if someone wants to try programming this and then release the link to Download the app. I guarantee more listeners will appear after this happens.

I too have this dilemma. I have an android phone and no matter what I do, I cannot listen to my stream. I tried to add the code to my web site, but I am using google apps and they won't let you put code in the page. Or I can't seem to figure it out. So, I am stuck. Is there an app that will work with freestreamhosting??? I need one...lol

Thanks
Jerry

I have found a good way that works with the new BB OS and that will be rolled out to our paid services and then before long it will be added to the free service.

I'm also looking in to other mobiles as well to get the best possible compatibility for everyone.

Well I'm sure this will be a breakthrough and push more broadcaster's to use your service. The other FREE service does not support this so this could be a way to get more advertisers for your service.

This is probably because you haven't viewed the ads on the phone before tuning in. Before listening, the ads must be seen in order to unlock the listener IP.

I think I have posted this on how to receive your FREE station from your droid but I'll do it again.

1. You should broadcast @ either 32K AAC+ (which won't work on your web player) or 32K Mp3 with 16hz.
2. Tell your listeners to install XiiaLiveLite as it accepts URL's from links and type in's.
3. On your web page or tell your listeners to wait till the Google ads show and then click the Windows Media Player link. If all goes well XiiaLiveLite will launch and begin playing your station.

The reason I've not broadcasted on here lately is lack of listeners and bandwidth issues for now. I may try l8er as I'd like to see more FREE stations succeed and they can if listeners are told to Download XiiaLiveLite.

Check out my paid station on iTunes if you like Real Album Rock.
Radio>Classic Rock>Type L and look for The Legacy. Hope you like and as always I'll try and help you FREE broadcasters.

I discovered you can tune into shoutcast streams on android phones by downloading the Winamp app, going to shoutcast and searching for the station, I often do this for my station and hook it up to the amp at work, sounds good even at 128k, maybe there is an easier way of having a link that will automatically open it in Winamp?
