Postby HarrisKhaliq » Thu 06th Dec, 2007 9:58 pm

This file can be used for listeners, who want to listen via windows media player

Put the following code in notepad with your stations details.

Code: Select all
<ASX VERSION="3.0" previewmode="no">
  <Param Name = "AllowShuffle" Value = "NO"/>
  <PARAM NAME="HTMLView" VALUE="THE PAGE YOU WANT TO COME UP IN WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER VISUALIZATION SCREEN PUT THE URL HERE"/>
     <ENTRY clientSkip="no">
         <REF HREF="STATION LINK"/>
   </ENTRY>

</ASX>

I've managed to get my windows media stream working with the help of the ADMIN..thanks! I do have a few questions though..

1. when a user clicks on the windows media link I created, it opens in a browser window, rather than Windows Media. If I copy & paste the link into Windows Media it also works plus it shows the homepage of my site as well which is great! .. How would I go about having it open in the player rather the browser?

-- I also used the windows media link in a embedded player, works great..

2. For the other media players...
I-Tunes uses the same link as Win-Amp..right?? (ie. /listen.pls ) ... is that correct?
Can I also make links for Quicktime and Real Player? It's kinda hard to search in Google since i'm not really sure what key words to use.

Thank for any help anyone can give!!

I know I answered your ticket but I'll post the info here as well

Media Player not opening ASX file:
You will need to add a mime-type to your htaccess file. To do that, look in the same folder as the asx file is hosted and see if there is a file called .htaccess - if so then open it and add the following line:

AddType video/x-ms-asf asf asx

If there is no .htaccess file then you will need to create it. If you are using Windows then it won't allow you to name a file with a . at the start, so create a file called something like x.htaccess and add the line. Upload the file and rename it to .htaccess.

And i-Tunes uses the same format as Winamp (PLS) so you don't need to create a separate file.

Thanks, I did manage to get it to work, but it opens in a browser window, how can I get the Windows Media link to open in Windows Media Player? The feature I'm after is the way it also opens my homepage in the player....which it does if I copy & paste the link into the W.M. player..

Here's my link, in FireFox it opens in the browser, for some reason in Internet Explorer it opens WinAmp - but that may be because I have a old version of IE.

That link works fine, it opens in Winamp for me as well because Winamp sets itself as the default player for ASX files. For people without Winamp it will open in WMP (or those that have the ASX permissions set to open in WMP)

ASX files will open Windows Media Player if the listener is using a Windows OS with WMP configured correctly.
